After my parents died 3 yrs ago, we began having Thanksgiving at another family members house. Though I've been a vegetarian 30 yrs, seeing the turkey carcass with plenty of meat go into the garbage just made me cringe. I decided the next year, I'd kindly say something, and so have brought it home the past 2 years for my pups. Last year, I was able to can 6 pints of meat and broth for them, plus give them a few nights of turkey treats. I do many of the same things as you, though I don't wash my egg shells. In the summer, the pan does have a tendency to draw fruit flies, so I can see how it would be helpful. I put all my squash & pumpkin skins in the broth bag too, as I expect you do.
