We went to see Hubby's parents. Like us they are keeping away from social activities due to the virus going around. We sat 6 ft apart for each other. MIL sprayed Lysol as we left. We talked about ways to save money and keep bills low. She was surprised I was canning meat until she checked the price at her local store. She down loaded the same coupon I had used and went. Got three chuck roasts (all cooked and in freezer in servings for two) and 2 whole chickens cooked and in freezer also. She won't have to cook for 3 weeks she said LOL.
Son 2 was in ER again, high BP AGAIN. They are changing his meds but he also told me this morning the job he changed to when he retired from Army is worse stress (and not due to wars even though it's a civilian job on base) than being in military. PLUS he is bouncing through denials from Army over working burn pits for a year in Iraq.
Daughter 4 caught the virus I had for 6 wks. Her two sons picked her up and carried her to the car and took her to the ER. She's passed out on them twice in the past 24 hrs. They had enough of her "I am okay". Her lupus is one of the worse flare ups the ER had seen , but not the worse the Lupus doctor had seen. On different meds and getting her BP up from the low she had.
Son2 said if they shared BP , they would both be normal.
Daughter 2 said she fainted at work (custodian at school) due to hot flash. Was lucky she warned the one she was working with what was going on and that she needed to lay down. They caught her before she fell over. School nurse checked her out and now she has appt with her doctor over it.
Daughter 1 has out patient back surgery the 18th.
Daughter 3 and Son 1 wants everyone else to stay away from them. We agree with those feelings.
We are doing phone conference with finance guy tonight (he doesn't want virus and said it went through the office so he was not having anyone come in either) .
We are changing budget so I need to sit down after conference call and deal with that.
Most the Christmas decorations are up.
How is your month going?
Well merry Christmas the whole dang family is falling apart.
ReplyDeleteThe rotisserie chickens at Sam's have been huge lately, like five pounds! They are a better buy than cooking it myself with the current prices. But, right now we have at least 30 jars of home canned. I need to do pork and carnitas when we see a good sale on pork loins that usually happen in January. We have some beef in jars but I am watching for a sale to bulk up the supply.
ReplyDeleteWe got ten pounds of 88 percent lean ground beef at the surplus store for $2.49 a pound last week so we are stocked on ground beef in the freezer for many months now
Prices at Sam's are beating even the surplus grocery stores on many items. We have to remember to go there first for any stock up. Thankfully we can access prices on the app. The new Scan and Go makes shopping there so easy. We scan as we add items to the cart and when we are done we hit pay and we are out the door
Ist this covid virus? We still wear masks and do not go out to eat. I had it twice and do not need to be ill at all. Believe it or not, I slept well last night, all the way to 1:30, and we still got a lot done. Your kids have certainly been through the wringer. If I had a job like your daughter, I would have fainted, too, when I went through menopause. It never ends with me and menopause. At least you have your decorations up. Still prodding Tommy on that. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteOh my! That’s a lot of sickness. So far, our month is going better than yours.
ReplyDeleteLike your MIL, I frequently cook meat and freeze for future meals. I never learned to can meat
I asked the Amish. Ball canning jars has a good canning book for meat also.
DeleteRhonda, It is so easy! Cut your raw meat into chunks about an inch and a half. Pack into your clean jars and add your lids. Nothing but meat goes in the jars. Process in pressure canner for 75 minutes for pints and 90 minutes for quarts.
DeleteWas in a state of shock over meat prices last weekend when I walked into a grocery. I am picking up locally marked down meats mostly lately and the freezer is pretty well packed. I plan to clear it out some more come January and then will assess how much more meat I can pack into it. Thinking vegetables as well (cauliflower, broccoli, etc).
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that your family is so sick. Having Lupus must make it terribly difficult for those of you who have that as well.
